Transforming the Dated Exterior of our Via Teca Project with Romabio Classico Limewash – Becki Owens Blog
To make sure we got the finish we wanted, we took Romabio’s advice and used both their MicroGrip Primer and Large Masonry Brush for perfect application. Both work for interior and exterior application. We’ve been using a lot of stone in our interior projects and loved learning that we can use Romabio to get the look we want inside too.
Limewash has been used in Europe for centuries, and the look it creates on Via Teca carries that history with it but feels completely modern. The tone-on-tone look of the Classico Limewash and the soft taupe paint accent we used for the garage and shutters is soft and elevated in its simplicity. Against it, ceramaic planters, greenery and flowers, and black metal lighting pops.
We love the way Romabio helped us blur the lines between traditional and modern to create an elevated airy look for this coastal transformation. We limewashed the exterior of our Via Teca Project and the transformation is so good! This project is set against an incredible backdrop of ocean blues, earthy browns, and vibrant greens of the southern California coastline, and we really wanted that natural beauty to be the emphasis of the home. We thought the multi-colored stack stone was a distraction. We turned to Romabio, experts in brick and masonry paint. Using Romabio Classico Limewash, we made over the dated stone and created the airy coastal vibe we were after. Read on to see the before and afters and learn all about Romabio. They can transform your home too!

We paired the limewashed stone with Romabio Masonry Flat on the stucco. Masonry Flat is a high-performing, mineral based masonry paint made for extreme durability. It has a beautiful, permanent flat finish that is naturally mold resistant, toxin-free, and environmentally friendly. Mineral paints are breathable and calcify to the masonry surface to allow moisture release for a low-maintenance, long-lasting finish. When applied as directed, Masonry Flat has a 20-year warranty.
Classico Limewash from Romabio is an authentic slaked-lime paint handcrafted in Italy with Dolomite lime using 2,000 year old techniques combined with modern formulation for ease of use. It’s breathable, highly UV-resistant, and long lasting. It patinas overtime creating a unique, beautiful, natural looking finish.
No one does Limewash like Romabio. In Roman times, lime paints were applied everywhere and it took hundreds of years, if not centuries, to create the beautiful whitewash effect. With this product, we got the look overnight. Other paints and processes like the German Schmear technique are much more difficult to apply and cause issues with the brick and stone because they are not breathable. Hydrated Lime is another product that can get a similar look, but because it is not authentic slaked lime, it will not give you the same beauty and ease as Romabio Classico Limewash.
